9 Best Tobago Attractions

Although Tobago is often associated with the island of Trinidad you’ll discover that there are many beautiful things in this island alone.

 

It offers tourists a more laid back feeling with less hustle and bustle as that of bigger islands. Among the things that tourists look for in Tobago attractions are the great beaches, untouched natural scenes and of course other island surprises. 

 

 Here are some things that you should look forward to in terms of Tobago attractions:

 

 

1.    Argyle Waterfalls- Located at the village of Argyle before Roxborough town and close to Louis d’or Nurseries you will find three tiers of waterfalls. It looks as if it has been woven through offering a unique look to it. Guides are available in the area to help you explore the waterfalls better. Access to the area is also easily doable  by getting a vehicle at a Tobago car rental service.

 

2.    Caledonia Wildlife Bird Sanctuary. This Tobago attraction is not only for those who love birds. Tourists will all enjoy looking at colorful birds that reside in this wildlife sanctuary which was once a cocoa plantation. Many of the birds are friendly and have become used to humans allowing tourists to feed them. 

 

3.    Little Tobago Island. Off the village of Speyside you’ll find a small island with a sparse population. A lot of the places here still remain untouched and carry nature’s true beauty. You will be able to watch birds of all kinds. One specific kind of bird that comes here is the Scarlet Ibis which is a migratory bird that returns annually. 

 

4.    Tobago Forest Reserve. Perhaps among all the islands in the Caribbean Tobago remains to be the one with the most well preserved forests. You will find a full range of flora and fauna here that is unlike any other. It’s forested central mountain range has remained a protected nature reserve since the 1760’s.  

 

5.    Deep Sea Fishing Tours. Fishing is a relaxing experience that you can enjoy even on vacation. Be surprised at the number of different fishes which you can get hold of. Marlin, barracuda, king-fish, sail-fish, tuna and swordfish are only some of the possible catches. However you should note that the island encourages fish preservation and has a release program.  

 

6.    Mystery Tombstone. Many tourists are often curious about the spectacle wrapped around this tombstone. Near the seaside village of Plymouth you can view the famous epitaph that belongs to Betty Stivens. 

 

7.    Englishman’s Bay. If you are looking for some peace and quiet on the beach then this is the perfect place for you to go. Aside from enjoying the beach it makes for a perfect place for a picnic. Watch wildlife particularly leatherback turtles  which come ashore to build nests and lay their eggs. 

 

8.    Bucoco Reef. This protected marine park has a wide range of marine life that you can view. It is rated as the third most spectacular reef in the world and has been a subject for world famous oceanographers. Here you will find 7 square kilometers of reefs shaped in an arc with five flats. Within it are a shallow reef lagoon and the Bon Accord Lagoon. 

 

9.    The Tobago Museum. Learn more about the early history of the island when you visit this museum located in the Barrack Guard House of Fort King George. You will find artifacts, relics and other exhibits of colonial history.
