St Lucia Honeymoon

 

Lying in the eastern Caribbean Sea bounded by the Atlantic Ocean is the island of St Lucia.

A popular vacation destination it is found south of Martinique and northwest of Barbados. The capital of this tropical island is Castries.

Named after Saint Lucy of Syracuse this island was first visited by Europeans and eventually colonized by the French. The British later on went to war with France and took over the island. Over the next few hundred years Britain and France fought over the island fourteen times, giving rise to the popular “Helen on the Indies” tag it has.

 

Today, St Lucia has a legal system based on the British common law and remains to be a free economy ranking 25 out of all the economies in the entire world. The currency used throughout the island is the East Caribbean Dollar (XCD). The economy of the island relies mainly on banana production, light production and of course tourism.  

 

 

With tourism as a major source of income for the economy, there are a number of St Lucia sites that you can go to.

The Sulphur Springs in Soufriere is one of these. Here you will be able to relax and enjoy while soaking in waters that are known to be therapeutic.  

The Diamond Botanical Gardens are another popular tourist attraction. It is home to a wide variety of plant and animal species as well as the Diamond Waterfalls.

One third of St. Lucia’s populations live in the capital city of Castries while the rest of population is spread throughout major towns like Gros Islet, Soufrière and Vieux Fort. The culture that the people have is greatly influenced by French, African and English cultures. The major languages spoken throughout the island are English and Creole which is a form of French patios.

 

There are a number of festivities which are celebrated on the island which represent different orders. Like other Caribbean islands there is a great love for music on the island and form of music including reggae, kompa, zouk and soca can be heard throughout the place.   

 

The climate of the country is mainly tropical with dry season running from January to April and wet season lasting from May to December.
