Bermuda
Car Rental Options
|
|
If
there is something unique about Bermuda
compared to other Caribbean islands
it’s the fact that you can’t drive
around.
No
matter how far and wide you search you’ll
discover that there are no Bermuda car
rental services around. This is partly
because there is a severe case of traffic
congestion and therefore not enough
parking spaces
available.
|
To make this less of a
problem, only Bermudians are allowed to drive
around.
Despite this you will
be glad to know that there is a wide range of
transportation available in the island ready to help you
get around. If you were counting on making use of a
Bermuda car rental, take heart you have other
options. So once you arrived on your flight to Bermuda, consider some
of these methods of transport on the
ground:
Bus
There is an abundance
of buses on the island. There are different destinations
for buses so you don’t have to worry about not being able
to go somewhere. If you are not too sure about where to
get a bus, or where the bus stop is, it can be pretty
easy to tell.
If you are around the
Hamilton area just look for a blue pole if you are going
outbound and a pink pole if you are going
inbound. You can take advantage of Transportations
Passes which allow you unlimited rides for one, three or
even seven days. These can also be used on ferries.
Taxi
Wherever you go you
will find a taxi and it can be a good choice for
transportation if you don’t fancy sitting with a whole
bunch of strangers. The only drawback is that taking
several cab rides might prove to be expensive. However
you can still be sure that you won’t get ripped off since
all taxi rates are run by meter. Some cabs are available
for rent for six hours, an entire day or even a week.
You’ll discover that most taxi drivers are actually very
friendly and helpful. You can ask them about local spots
and places to visit. As a matter of fact many tourists
often hire taxis to take them on tours instead of going
with an official tour guide.
Scooter
Despite the lack of
Bermuda car rental services there is an abundance of
scooters!! Talk about island
life!
This is perhaps the
most popular mode of transportation in the area. You do
not even need a driver’s license to be able to hire one.
The only downside to this is that if there are a number
of people in your group it becomes slightly more
difficult to get everyone to rent scooters. The age limit
for driving a scooter in Bermuda is 16. Anyone younger
will not be permitted to use this mode of
transportation.
Other than this you
need to remember that traffic in this country comes from
the left side, so you need to drive on the left hand side
of the road. A safety helmet is given when you rent out a
scooter and it must be worn at all times that you are
driving. The speed limit is 35 km/h when driving around
the city areas.
Getting around here
is different, but fun. So enjoy every minute of
it!
